The magic of Donegal, an (my) Irish place of longing<\/h4>\n

\n\tE<\/span>ven though it wasn't my first time in the northwest of Ireland, Donegal<\/a> is a place that truly defies description. The rugged beauty of the landscape, from the towering cliffs to the incredible beaches, is simply breathtaking time and again. What really defines Donegal for me is the deep connection to nature that you can feel here.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

\n\tI<\/span> also like the weather, which is even more unpredictable up here than in the rest of Ireland. At Malin Head, for example, the northernmost point of Ireland on the Inishowen Peninsula, the notorious Icelandic lows are the first to hit land and deliver their heavy rainfall. Up here, you can still wander for hours in the incredible nature without encountering a soul, even though the cliffs of Slieve League are much more impressive than the Cliffs of Moher. Here, you can discover the most beautiful sandy beaches in all of Ireland on perfect hiking trails and enjoy the Caribbean-blue sea without mass tourism and caravans, even in summer.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

\n\tO<\/span>ne of the highlights of Donegal are undoubtedly the incredible beaches.
\nFrom the hidden beaches that can only be explored at low tide, such as Maghera Strand and its caves, to the endless sandy beaches like Magheraclogher Beach with the shipwreck 'B\u00e1d Eddie' (Eddie\u2019s Boat), Five Fingers Strand, named after the five rocky outcrops that jut into the sea like fingers, or Silver Strand in Malin Beg, a crescent-shaped natural wonder surrounded by high cliffs, which can only be reached via a very steep staircase, to name just a few breathtaking examples.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\nTime seems to have a different meaning here and I often found myself just sitting and taking in the incredible nature.<\/p>\n

That's why you shouldn't explore Donegal in a hurry.\n<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\n\tW<\/span>hat makes Donegal so special for me are the people. The Irish are known for their hospitality, and in the north of Ireland, I have always experienced them at their warmest. Whether in the pub with live music and a pint of Guinness or chatting with the locals \u2013 I always feel at home and welcome here.<\/p>\n

I can only recommend to anyone who wants to experience the untouched nature, the warm hospitality, and the rich history of Northern Ireland to visit Donegal. It is a place where you can relax and create unforgettable memories, and who knows, maybe you will find a piece of home there, just like I did. I am already looking forward to my next trip to this wonderful region.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Beautiful beaches in Donegal<\/h4>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

Donegal is famous for its stunning beaches and each has its own charm.<\/h5>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n

Here are some of my favourite beaches:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Silver Strand Beach (Malin Beg):<\/strong><\/em><\/span> This picturesque, horseshoe-shaped beach is nestled in a bay near Glencolmcille. With its golden sand, turquoise water, and surrounding cliffs, it is a true hidden gem. The beach is only accessible via a staircase with 174 steps, which gives it a special seclusion.<\/p>\n

Murder Hole Beach (Boyeeghter Bay):<\/strong><\/em><\/span> Don't be put off by the name \u2013 this hidden beach on the Rosguill Peninsula is a gem. Steep dunes, wind-swept rock formations, and golden sand make it a wild, untamed paradise. At low tide, it's a dream beach, but be sure to pay attention to the tides.<\/p>\n

Kinnagoe Bay:<\/strong><\/em><\/span> One of the highlights on the Inishowen Drive, also known as Inishowen 100 (Inis Eoghain 100). Crystal clear water, fine sand, and the remains of the Spanish Armada ship \"La Trinidad Valencera\" make this beach truly special. However, there is only a very narrow, winding road to this secluded bay. With a motorhome, you should avoid it, as you might get down to the beach but definitely won't get back up to the Inishowen Drive due to the extreme steepness and narrowness of the road.<\/p>\n

Five Finger Strand:<\/strong><\/em><\/span> This kilometer-long, golden sandy beach on the Inishowen Peninsula, named after the five rocky outcrops that jut into the sea like fingers, is a paradise for hiking, swimming, and relaxing away from the crowds.<\/p>\n

Ballymastocker Bay:<\/strong><\/em><\/span> This beach is regularly listed among the most beautiful beaches in Ireland and impresses with its fine, golden sand and crystal-clear water.<\/p>\n

Maghera Strand:<\/strong><\/em><\/span> What truly makes this breathtaking beach a unique destination are the numerous caves and grottoes embedded in the limestone cliffs along the beach, some of which are only accessible at low tide. You should definitely be aware of the tides to avoid being caught off guard.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
